Today isn't a post about what you said but what your teacher just said (in an email) to us.

Hello Morris Family,

     I hope you are having a great day! I just wanted to take a minute to say what a joy it is to be Everett’s teacher. He is such a sweet and bright boy. He pays attention in class and loves to work hard and learn. Today we were talking about speech bubbles and punctuation. He was so focused on the lesson and I am very proud of his participation and work ethic. J

Today we were driving and a current song called "7 Years" by Lukas Graham was playing on the radio. The lyrics are "Once I was 7 years old..." and you thought that was such a ridiculous and obvious thing - why even mention it?! From the back seat I heard "of course! Of course he was 7 years old!"

Then when I asked about what you were meaning you said, "of course he was 7 years old. (chuckle) I guess he is just letting us know?"

*The lyrics go on but you didn't listen to the story they were telling, you just heard that one absurd statement  :)

This afternoon we were going to sit down and play a game together. You asked me, "are you finished working for today?" I responded by saying "no, I am never finished working." I didn't know I was being set up... you replied, "well, then you set this (the game) up because I am done working for today."

This evening I was talking to you before bed about why you act so shy around your teacher when I am there. You hide behind me, don't answer her questions, and don't look at her like I know you do the rest of the time. I encouraged you to talk to her and asked why you didn't today. You said, "well, I don't really know how to talk to women."

You really are so funny.

You went on to say, "how old is she? Did she tell you how old she is?"

You just came in from the backyard where you were playing with Emily. You said, "we are playing a game, Mama. We are playing King and Queen.  We are playing King and Queen and after we that we are going to play something that I want to play." haha, putting in your time, little brother. What a sweetheart

You just came inside looking for a long rope. Emily sent you on the mission because you two are playing in the backyard and the ball and rope combo you had already wasn't long enough. After I brought up some issues you walked away and when I asked where you were going you said, "I am going to tell Emily she has to come up with another idea." haha you do not sound like a 4.5 year old

It is about lunch time and we just came in the kitchen and you said, "can I have a side? I am going to have a side." I asked you what a side is and you said, "a side is a fing (thing) that you also eat for your lunch or your dinner - or your breakfast. That's what a side is."

You chose a clementine.

Today we were driving in the car and you (with exasperation) said, "I keep forgetting to throw my wrappers away!" We talked about you clearing out the couple that had collected in your car seat just yesterday so I responded with a frustrated, "Everett..." but you quickly said, "it wasn't ME! It's my brain!"

This morning you had the opportunity to choose anything you wanted to take for share at school. After a little thought you showed me that you were taking a Croc - one of your dirty rubber shoes! When I questioned whether or not you were really going to take your shoe you said, "yeah, they are gonna laugh."

Are you going to be the class clown??  uh oh

*When I went to pick you up after school Miss Connie said how hard they all laughed when you shared your Croc and that you introduced it "this is my dirty Croc." She and her daughter and her daughter's friend (visiting from college) went on and on about how funny it was. I guess your plan was a success. :)

Today I decided to revisit the whole 'picking up after a dog thing' and said to you, "Everett, if we had a dog you would need to pick up the poop." Your reply, "Noooooo, (grossed out) I don't want to have to wash my hands every day!"

Today we were driving and I saw a woman cleaning up after her dog. It prompted me to say to you that when you (meaning anyone) have a dog, you have to clean up after him/her. You were grossed out and said that you were going to have a wife that would do that. (haha, dear me)

Today you were sitting at the table and sounding out words for your own book. You asked me for help on which letter says /w/ and then after I said "W" you went on sounding out "wuv." So cute!! And now I understand your confusion. You hear /l/ from us but /w/ from yourself.  :)

Later, at bedtime, we were talking about your book and what it is going to be about because the first part was "I wuv California." You said that you were going to write "I wuv when Emily calls me Bubba. … and then I will put a period (cut off your thought to ask) is that a sentence?" After I said that it was indeed a sentence you said, "good, then I can put a period at the end!"

You are so smart and always paying attention to what Emily is doing and the things we talk to her about.

Today we went to the $2 theater to see Home and during the movie the dialogue goes as follows...

O: "9 mistakes and you're out (of the group)."
Tip: "How many mistakes have you made?"
O: "62..."

Immediately after O said that, you said very matter of fact, "that is more than 9."

Tonight when I was tucking you in bed I asked if you had a hard time before bed and got in trouble. I asked, "why were you crying?" Your response, "because Daddy wuins (ruins) my life. He makes me walk too much."

Oh the drama you are picking up from your big sister!! You never want to walk when it is to a place you don't want to go.
